Is it possible to change your tax information so you aren't eligible for a return?

I'm not sure how to word this, but my ex owes a certain amount in arrears for child support. His tax return usually goes toward that every year and will continue to do so until it's paid in full. I haven't received it this year, so I was wondering if there is something he could've done to bypass the system in order to make sure I don't receive it? Our financial situations have not changed over the past year.Is it possible to change your tax information so you aren't eligible for a return?
Reduce his income. If your income is too low, you don't have tofile a return.

Or he could lie to the IRS.Is it possible to change your tax information so you aren't eligible for a return?
Sure, he could have lost his job.

You say that his refund is kept and sent to you. If you fill out your W4 properly, you will not get a refund. Many people actually OWE money on April 15th becuase they had too little withheld.

People who get a refund every year are letting the government hold onto their money all year for free. Getting a refund is a bad financial decision.
He could have changed his W-4 at work so that his employer holds out less from each paycheck, yes.

Or he may just not have filed his tax return for this year yet. He could have filed for an extension, which means his return wouldn't be due until October.
He may not have filed or he may have reduced is withholding so he doesn't have a refund and owes.
It's legal for a person to set up their W-4 so they come close to even when they file, or even owe some as long as it's less than $1000. So yes it's possible to set up so he doesn't HAVE a refund.

Or maybe you just didn't get it YET.
