How can I discourage Jehovah's Witnesses from ringing my doorbell in the mornings?

I don't want to be mean or anything like that, but they have been ringing my doorbell every weekend around 8am for the past 3 months. I keep telling them that me and my gf don't want to change religions, and please don't come back, but they do. My neighbors tell me the same thing, and that they've told them to ';f off.'; How should I deal with these people? How can I discourage Jehovah's Witnesses from ringing my doorbell in the mornings?
Put an upside down pentagram on the door. Might invite something else you don't want though. How can I discourage Jehovah's Witnesses from ringing my doorbell in the mornings?
Not something I recommend, though it worked for a friend of mine. He answered the door naked. They never bothered him again. Me, on the other hand, will engage them in conversation until THEY get tired of speaking to me. I can out talk a Jehovah's Witness, heh heh.
if you tell them not to come back they put your house number on a list to not call on, but sometimes when the territory gets done again they forget to look at the ';do not call'; list. Witnesses dont usually go to door as early at 8 am, Mormons maybe?
Say you're a witch. Works like a charm :)
Hand them a raw porterhouse and then tell your rottweiler to go get it.
What looks good on a Jehovah's Witness. A Rottweiler.
You can make a nice sign like me.

Please do not ring bell or knock

on door. I have small children

taking their naps. Thank You.

I promise no respectable person would knock. I watched them come to my door read the note and walk away. It works great for any annoying salesperson too.
pitbull!

seriously, ask where their kingdom hall is and call to complain, threatening legal action if they don't back off.
I get rid of them by speaking the gospel truth. They can't hold ground to someone who is well learned of the bible.

I knew a girl who showed up to her door in a bathrobe. She let them in and her husband was watching a hard rock video from Black Sabbath. They took one look at tv and ran out the door as fast as they can.

Hang a satanic pentagram on the door and I'm sure they will leave you alone!

Talk them to death. Don't let them get a word in. Be like Roseanne Bar. That will discourage them from coming back for sure.
I STARTED STUDING WITH JEHOVAHS WITNESSES AND THEIR NOT AS CRAZY AS SOME PPL THINK BUT SOME ARE BY BUGGING LIKE CRAZY CALL THEIR CHURCH AND COMPLAINT ABOUT THEM
Guard dogs, razor wire obstacles and gun towers..

The next time they come ask for their name then call your local kingdom hall and lodge a complaint..
Understand where they are coming from. Outright rejection will not discourage them, because they are trying to teach and ';save'; you. Some of their best converts were people who slammed doors in their faces, so to them your response is encouraging.

Jehovah's Witnesses are good folks wanting to help our world, and they do very good things for others. I personally do not agree with their teachings but do agree with their good intentions to help and would never harm a person of good will.

When they have stopped by my house I got into communication, found out where they are coming from and who they are, told them I like reading the Watch Tower and give them a donation for their good works. I also said we are doing well in life and a pretty happy family, thank you for helping so many people - we are also supporters of freedom of religion and would go down on the mat for their right to practice their own religion.

From this response, they go away pleased that they have helped someone that day, and have received an acknowledgement that makes up for so many rejections. It is a tough job going door to door like that.

Back to your question - try being nice and friendly, you can disagree without being disagreeable. They are not allowed to be friends with non believers, anyway.
Ask them to place you on the ';Do Not Call'; list.

And tell them this will not change in the foreseeable future and not to check back in a year.

If they continue to ring bells

Call the police.
Simply hang a sign up that says ';Please Do NOT ring doorbell'; and take it down when it's a better time to be bothered.

Edited to add: Wow, there are a few sour apples on here! When I was a JW child I was made to go out door to door as early as 7:00 A.M., so no- 8:00 A.M. is NOT an exaggeration! (the earlier you ';start'; your ';field service time'; the earlier you can stop and try to enjoy your day. (Yes, we have to report how many hours are spent telling others about Jehovah) Please disregard all the negative people who are tryign to make you look bad...they are only making themselves and the rest of the JW population look bad. It's a shame, since there are a few really nice folks out there.
ask to be placed on the do not call list thing they have, and hang a no soliciting sign. make sure it is where they can see it. if they knock then you have even more cause for calling the police and can file charges for harassment. it's one thing to come once, maybe twice. but 12 times in a row? that is harassment.

add: it may be true that they don't have their meetings until 9am. i have had a woman come before that though. -but, i invited her back at no specific time so she was just dropping off magazines.

i wonder is it the same person or is it always different people coming to your door? an individual may be super persistent from the group, because normally they wouldn't come back. or, maybe someone in your home has been talking to them -is that possible?

also, it may also be mormons. mormons are usually 2 men in black suits on bikes. JW's are groups of women, men and children all dressed nice but not just in black suits.
You're lying. THAT much is very obvious.

We do not go to people's homes that early in the morning. The earliest anyone might come and knock on your door (or ring your bell) is maybe 9:30. We don't typically have our meetings for the field ministry until at least 9:00 and break out into groups and drive out to the territory by 9:15 or 9:30 (depending on the time of the meeting).

Clearly nobody has been coming to your door and this 'question' is nothing but a rant by someone who just doesn't like Jehovah's Witnesses.
A SIGN ON THE DOOR THAT SAYS

NO JEHOVAHS WITNESSES OR ANY OTHER SOLICITERS......

YOU DISRESPECT THIS REQUEST......I WILL CALL THE POLICE......

THANK YOU.........

IF THEY DONT CARE AND KNOCK ON THE DOOR........GET A CAMERA AND THE LICENSE PLATE TO MAKE YOUR REPORT TO THE POLICE.........
go to this link. print out these questions and paste them to your front door.

Questions that Jehovah's Witnesses do not like to be asked.

1. If the organization did not actually prophesy the end in 1925 and 1975, then how come so many Witnesses left the faith immediately afterwards? (';They lost roughly three-quarters of the movement between 1925 and 1928, then suffered huge losses after 1975, when the end didn't come as they had implied over and over again,'; said Jim Penton, an ex-Witness who writes entries on Jehovah's Witnesses for the Encyclopedia Americana.)

2. If the Watchtower organization rejects others calling them ';inspired'; yet the Watchtower organization does call themselves ';God's Spirit-directed Prophet'; what is the difference? Is there such a thing as an ';uninspired prophet';? See Organization claims inspiration

3. Has the Society ever taught anything scripturally incorrect? See Prophecy Blunders of the Organization

4. Might the Society be teaching anything scripturally incorrect now?

5. Since the Organization has received ';new light'; regarding the 1914 generation, and completely changed their view on this, does this mean that all the former Jehovah's witnesses who were disfellowshipped years ago for the same view the organization is now teaching will automatically be accepted into fellowship again? Were these Ex-Jw's in fact disfellowshipped for truth and knew things that the governing body did not? See Jw's were disfellowshipped for rejecting generation doctrine

6. Can Jehovah's Witnesses hold and discuss openly with other Jehovah's Witnesses opinions that differ from orthodox Watch Tower doctrine?

7. Can individuals read %26amp; understand the Bible alone, or do they need an organization and it's publications to do so? Click here find the answer!

8. How do you prove from the Bible that 1935 was the year for the selection to heaven stopped due to being filled? What is the difference between a Catholic appealing to ';what the organization tells him'; about December 25 being the date of Jesus鈥?birthday and a Jw鈥?appealing to ';what the organization tells him'; about the date 1935? Is it not hypocritical when you chide the ';poor deluded Catholic'; that his faith cannot find a Bible passage to support it, when the same goes for you and 1935?

9. How do you know that there were any vacancies, if any, in the 144,000 class if Jesus offered this to first century Christians? How can the organization know the exact number of vacancies today without any records from the first century?

10. Why are you called, ';Jehovah's Witnesses'; and not ';Christians';? Since Jehovah's Witnesses appeal to Isa 43:12; 44:8 for scriptural support that they should be called, ';Jehovah's Witnesses'; then what was the ';new name'; prophesied in Isa 62:2? Can't be ';Jehovah's Witnesses';, for God already used it 20 chapters earlier. Could the new name be ';Christian'; after our savior ';Christ';?

11. Why would the name God gave to His people not be ';Christians'; since Acts 11:26 says, ';The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch';? Why is the name ';Jehovah's Witness'; found nowhere in the New Testament, if that is God's divine name for His people under the new covenant? Why would God wait almost 2000 years to suddenly start using the name ';Jehovah's Witness';. Does this mean that first century Christians were not known as Jehovah's Witnesses';?

12. If the name Jehovah is so important, then why is it never used in the entire Greek New Testament? If men edited out the name of God, ';YHWH'; when they copied the New Testament, as only the Watchtower organization claims, then how can we have any confidence in any of the New Testament? Should we discard the New Testament or the Watchtower organization as unreliable?

13. If the name ';Jehovah'; is so important, then why does Acts 4:12 say, ';There is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name [v10 Jesus Christ] under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved';? Would this not have been the logical place for God to have used the name ';YHWH';?

14. What is the correct spelling of God's proper name ';Yahweh'; or ';Jehovah';? If Jehovah's Witnesses maintain that ';Yahweh'; is more proper, why do they misspell it ';Jehovah';? If the name of God is so important, then should you not only pronounce it correctly, but spell it correctly too? Is not spelling more important than pronunciation?

15. Since the Jehovah's Witness organization currently rejects most of the teachings of its founder Charles Taze Russell (who was president of the organization from 1879-1916), and since they also reject ';Judge'; Joseph Franklin Rutherford, who succeeded Russell as president from 1916 - 1942, how can we be sure that in 25 more years, Jehovah's Witnesses won't also reject the current president, Milton G. Henschel (1992 - present), as they did Russell and Rutherford?

16. What kind of confidence can anyone have in an organization that rejected its founder and first two presidents for the first 63 years of its existence? This represents about 53% of the time they have existed!

17. Since the Watchtower organization claims ';apostolic succession'; who was it that ';passed the torch of God's Spirit'; to C. T. Russel when he founded the organization? What was the name of this individual?

18. In the NWT, every time the Greek word ';proskuneo'; is used in reference to God, it is translated as ';worship'; (Rev 5:14, 7:11, 11:16, 19:4, Jn 4:20, etc.). Every time ';proskuneo'; is used in reference to Jesus, it is translated as ';obeisance'; (Mt 14:33, 28:9, 28:17, Lk 24:52, Heb 1:6, etc.), even though it is the same word in the Greek (see Gr-Engl Interlinear). Especially compare the Greek word ';prosekunhsan'; used with reference to God in Rev 5:14, 7:11, 11:16, and 19:4 and used with reference to Christ in Mt 14:33, 28:9, and 28:17. What is the reason for this inconsistency? If the NWT was consistent in translating ';proskuneo'; as ';worship';, how would the verses above referring to Christ read?

19. The NWT translates the Greek word ';kyrios'; as ';Jehovah'; more than 25 times in the New Testament (Mt 3:3, Lk 2:9, Jn 1:23, Acts 21:14, Rom 12:19, Col 1:10, 1Thess 5:2, 1Pet 1:25, Rev 4:8, etc.). Why is the word ';Jehovah'; translated when it does not appear in the Greek text? Why is the NWT not consistent in translating kyrios (kurion) as ';Jehovah'; in Rom 10:9, 1Cor 12:3, Phil 2:11, 2Thess 2:1, and Rev 22:21 (see Gr-Engl Interlinear)?

20. To what was Jesus referring to by the term ';this temple'; in Jn 2:18- 19? See Jn 2:21.

21. If the Holy Spirit is God's impersonal active force, why does he directly speak and refer to himself as ';I'; and ';me'; in Acts 13:2?

22. The NWT translates the Greek words ';ego eimi'; as ';I am'; every time it appears (Jn 6:34, 6:41, 8:24, 13:19, 15:5, etc.), except in Jn 8:58 where it is translated as ';I have been';. What is the reason for the inconsistency in this translation? If ';ego eimi'; was translated in Jn 8:58 the same way it is translated in every other verse in which it appears, how would Jn 8:58 read?

23. In Rev 22:12-13, Jesus Christ, the one who is ';coming quickly';, says of himself, '; I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end';. In Rev 1:17-18, Jesus, the one who ';became dead, but, look! I am living forever and ever';, refers to himself as the first and the last. Rev 21:6, in speaking of God, says, ';...I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end ...';. God is also referred to as the ';first'; and the ';last'; in Isa 44:6 and Isa 48:12. How can this be since by definition of these words there can only be one first and one last?

24. Jn 1:3 says that Jesus created ';all things';, but in Isa 44:24, God says that he ';by myself'; created the heavens and the earth and asks the question ';Who was with me?'; when the heavens and the earth were created. How can this be since if Jesus was created by God, then he would have been with God when everything else was created?

25. Col 1:16, in talking about Jesus, says that ';... All [other] things have been created through him and FOR HIM';. If Jesus was Michael the Archangel at the time of creation, would an angel have created all things for himself? Isa 43:7 says God created ';everyone ... for my OWN glory...';.

26. The Watchtower Society teaches that the 144,000 of Rev 7:4 is to be taken literally. If chapter 7 of Revelation is to be taken literally, where then does the Bible say that the 144,000 will come from? (See Rev 7:5- 8).

27. If the soul is the body, why does Jesus make a distinction between the body and the soul in Mt 10:28?

28. The NWT translates Jn 1:1 as ';... and the Word was WITH God, and the Word was a god';. How can the Word (Jesus) be ';a god'; if God says in Deut 32:39, ';See now that I-I am he, and there are NO gods together WITH me ...';?

29. Jesus Christ is referred to as ';Mighty God'; in Isa 9:6 (';For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us ... And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God ...';). Jehovah is referred to as ';Mighty God'; in Isa 10:20-21. How can this be if there is only one
Johnathan, I happen to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses and so know that we NEVER knock on anyone's door at this hour! First, most are having breakfast as you are or getting their families up. We meet at 9 am and start preaching at 9.30 am.

If they keep coming it is because your girlfriend must have shown some interest, otherwise, they would not keep going back! I know this because a sister and I were regularly visiting a lady and one time, her husband spoke and said that NEITHER of them wanted to know - yet she was in the background, looking sad and embarrassed and that is because she was interested! We do not go anymore because it would defeat the object.

I do have one question for you: what is it about your religion that keeps you in? Do you like your religion because it fits in with you or do you do it because you genuinely think that you are doing what your Creator wants?

There is going to come the day, when God IS going to intervene and we just do not want people to not know! He asks all christians to do what we are doing otherwise He calls it blood guilty and to be honest, I do not wish for that!
As one of Jehovah's Witnesses for over 50 years, I know that is not true that we would begin calling at 8am. WE are barely alert at 8am.

I have thought though about the fact what we locally consider to be true is not all over the world to be true. Here in the US, we do not call before 9am or later. Perhaps in other parts of the world, this is not true. In parts of Europe, they do not consider having the evening meal before 10pm at night or later. This would be almost unthinkable to most Americans. Anything past 6pm would get to be quite hungry.

Jehovah's Witnesses do go by the local standards at any rate for what is a normal calling time. If you desire something different, tell them what time to call with a note on the door.
First of all, 8am is very early for them to begin their ministry (the door to door) work. They usually have their field service meetings at around 9:00 or 9:15, and start the ministry at around 9:30 or 9:45.

Although some (mainly regular or auxillary pioneers) start earlier, normally between 7:30 or 8am, this is usually when they go ';street witnessing'; or ';informal witnessing'; eg walking through public parks or along the seafront and offering their literature to people.

My mum's a regular auxillary pioneer and she starts her days at 8am sometimes.

Anyway, next time they call, tell them firmly to put you on their ';do-not-call'; list and that they are not to return.

If they still persist, contact the local Kingdom Hall or write them a letter, telling them that you will be considering legal action if they continue to ignore your wishes.
I am studying to be a Jehovah Witness and please read why. This may help you understand why you should listen to them when they come to your door. On any Sunday in the USA you can visit a Kingdom Hall while they are having their service meeting. You will be welcomed like a Rock Star and find yourself enthralled by Love and Friendship. While in the Hall you will be able to hear what the Witnesses learn from the Bible and other publications. Also, you will hear beautiful hymns sung by the congregation from the songbook.

You probably feel a 'void' in your life that you have a hard time handling. A witness can open the Bible and read a scripture that can help.

While sitting in the Hall you won't find anybody passing a donation basket. You won't hear anyone at the podium saying they aren't getting enough money like you hear in other places of worship.

My fiance began learning about Jehovah Witnesses before I met her. Now she has me doing it and I love it, because it filled the void I had. It was a void of Faith. I have learned the Real Truth of Jehovah God and my relationship with people is great now. In addition, my fiance says she trusts me more now and will marry soon.
answer the door nude and invite them in
Pepper spray.
8am is definitely an exaggeration. ';these people'; usually begin the ministry around 10am. the next time someone knocks, tell them you want to be on their do not call list.
First I must say that 8am seems like it would be an exaggeration or made up even. I've grown up around and been of one of Jehovah's Witnesses since i was 15, so, my whole life I've went from door to door and also visited other places where my friends are also JW's, other states in the US, other countries too, even South East Asia and i can tell you it is NOT normal to start going to people's homes before 9. Many don't even meet together to start going preaching until 9:30.

We will talk to people outside of their homes like at bus stops, parking lots and other public places where people are already out before 9am, but the chances of the same person catching you at the same time in those situations are rare unless you have a regular bus schedule for instance.

IF this is not a rant or made up or exaggerated, then simply tell them not to come so early and if that doesn't work you could make a note that no one ring the doorbell before 10 am or whatever. Try to be nice but clear, if you tell them you are not interested the same people shouldn't be coming back to visit again. Also, we do not try to change people's religion. We simply are copying Jesus and the work he did while on the earth, telling people about God and his kingdom from the Bible and let them decide if they want to learn more about what the bible *really* teaches or not.

in the end, if you're respectful but clear, they shouldn't be bothering you.
We usually start our preaching around 9am. We do go around at 8am. We consider that some people are still not awake.

JWs will continue to preach because this what Jesus commanded to his followers (Matthew 28:19-20). We preach not to force people to change their religion. We want people to know about God's Kingdom. In fact this one reason why Jesus was sent here, to preach the good news of the Kingdom. (Luke 4:43)
